Parking Concerns

The MUTCD recommends a minimum of 20 feet between the first parking space and the nearest edge of the crosswalk on the approach at an unsignalized intersection; and a minimum of 30 feet at signalized intersections. A twenty-foot long no parking zone should also be provided after the crosswalk on the departure of the intersection. This distance is needed to reduce the chances for turning vehicles to hit parked vehicles, as well as to provide sight distance between pedestrians crossing the intersection and motorists. Sight distance requirements may increase the no parking zone limits.
