Driveway and Intersection Spacing

Access management is the practice of controlling access by managing the location, number, and spacing of access points along a roadway. Access management is essential to enhancing safety and improving traffic operations. Access points should be kept away from intersections and crosswalks, and wide, uncontrolled access should be avoided.

Access points should be a minimum of 75 feet from intersections--through 200 feet is desirable, particularly with a large facility such as a PX or Commissary. The exact location and the number of access points should be determined by a qualified engineer.
