Right-Turn Lanes

Right-turn lanes should be considered when right turns exceed 50 to 100 vehicles per hour or where signal phasing separates turning movements. Normally, a minimum storage length of 100 feet should be provided. The Turn Lane Warrant Calculator portion of this module can be used to determine whether or not a dedicated right-turn lane is warranted based on roadway speed, truck percentage, terrain, and traffic volumes.
