Signal Mounting Height

The bottom of the signal housing and any related attachments located over a roadway shall be at least 15 feet above the pavement. The top of a signal housing, located over a roadway, shall not be more than 25.6 feet above the pavement. For signal faces located between 40 to 53 feet from the stop line, refer to the MUTCD for the maximum mounting height. Height determination should only be made by a qualified engineer.

The bottom of the signal housing, that is vertically arranged and not located over a roadway, shall be between 8 feet and 19 feet above the sidewalk or if there is no sidewalk, above the pavement grade at the center of the roadway.
