Signal Display Structures

Signal heads may be mounted on posts or poles at the sides of the roadway or on raised islands in the roadway. They also may be suspended from span wires or mast arms over the roadway. The use of tether wire with span wire mountings will reduce the movement of signal heads due to wind. Post-mounted signals are not recommended for use as the primary control of left-turn and through-traffic movements due to visibility issues.
