Design Considerations

Several elements must be considered when designing any parking facility. These include site characteristics, access points, setbacks, stall and aisle dimensions, layout of stalls, as well as the layout of the stalls (and stall angle), aisles, cross aisles, rows, and end islands/caps. Additional items to consider include location of employee parking (if necessary), accessible parking, parking space markings, wheel stops, surface treatment, drainage, lighting, and landscaping.

Refer to the SDDCTEA Pamphlet 55-17 for set guidelines for designing parking areas and other facilities required for on-site vehicular circulation. In addition, refer to service-specific guidelines.
