Inspection Area

Vehicle inspections generally take two forms: random inspection and select inspection based on guard concern. Requirements for the placement of the inspection area relative to the ID checkpoint vary by service. However, all ECFs must have the ability to conduct select inspections after the ID check area, which can be as simple as a pull-off lane.

Inspection areas need to provide for: protection from adverse weather, separation of vehicles from traffic flow, screening from the ID checkpoint area, rejection capabilities, and re-entry into the traffic flow. Separate facilities should be provided for truck and POV inspections.
