MASH Requirements

When it is determined that shielding the hazard with a traffic barrier is appropriate, ensure that the barrier performance conforms to AASHTO’s Manual for Assessing Safety Hardware (MASH). It presents uniform guidelines for crash testing permanent and temporary highway safety features and recommends evaluation criteria to assess test results. The AASHTO MASH is the most current criteria. Note that preapproved NCHRP Report 350 products may still be used.
